Job summary

Vancouver Public Schools propagates a Recreation Assistant at Propstra Aquatic Center in Vancouver, WA. This temporary, part-time, on-call position will not exceed 19 hours per week and starts immediately with a flexible schedule.

As a belayer and activity facilitator, you will supervise climbing sessions, ensure liability waivers are signed, and deliver friendly customer service to gym participants and staff. Prior climbing knowledge and strong interpersonal skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16.
• Completion of in-district climbing course required; Belay certification considered.
• Knowledge to help facilitate group events in the gym, including wall climbing.
• Ability to lead gym games for private parties and camps.
• Experience demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills and a team player attitude.

Responsibilities

• Treat others with dignity and respect at all times.
• Serve as a positive role model for students.
• Work in a flexible and cooperative manner.
• Serve as belayer during open/private sessions for climbing wall.
• Ensure climbers sign liability waivers and safety procedures are followed.
• Supervise open climbing sessions and enforce safety rules.
• Monitor and keep the area clean; care for equipment.
• Lead and monitor gym games for extended day programs or events.
• Keep facility areas presentable between sessions.
• Provide exceptional customer service via phone and in person.
• Be familiar with JPCC programs to answer inquiries.
• Dress and act as a school district representative.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
