Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company in Long Grove, IL is seeking a climbing arborist trainee for a permanent, full‑time on-site role. You will learn to climb and perform safe pruning and removal work while developing multiple tree-care skills.

Expect outdoor work with safety gear, paid orientation, and opportunities for growth. Starting pay is $20–$23 per hour, with benefits and career development programs available.

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors.
• Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights.
• Able to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program on hire.
• Able to complete Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course on hire.
• Licenses/certificates related to pesticides per state law (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees and work as part of a tree crew.
• Perform pruning and removal tasks safely and skillfully.
• Identify trees and follow pruning guidelines.
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood in the canopy.
• Learn to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection.
• Assist in removing hazardous trees.
• Maintain and operate tools and equipment, including chainsaws and chippers.
• Grow in responsibilities as skills develop.
