Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company in Wheeling, IL is seeking a climbing arborist trainee to learn tree pruning and removal on-site. You’ll join a crew, operate safely, and receive hands-on training while progressing in skill and responsibility.

This permanent, full-time role offers benefits and opportunities for advancement, with starting pay of $20-$23 per hour and a company committed to employee growth and safety.

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors.
• Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights preferred.
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire.
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire.
• Preferred pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees and progressively learn new skills on the tree crew.
• Perform tree pruning and removal tasks safely and skillfully for clients.
• Learn tree identification and pruning guidelines.
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood throughout the tree canopy.
• Learn to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems.
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees.
• Maintain and operate tools and equipment including chainsaws and chippers.
• Grow in height and responsibility as you gain experience.
