Job summary

The Great Plains Institute is seeking a Program Associate to support climate and clean energy planning for local governments. You will work with the Renewable Energy and Communities teams to develop strategies, manage projects, and produce case studies, reports, and outreach content.

The role emphasizes organization, curiosity, collaboration, and the ability to manage multiple projects with various stakeholders in a hybrid Minneapolis-based setting.

Qualifications

• One to three years of paid or volunteer experience with local or state governments, community organizations, renewable energy development, sustainability, climate, or related areas.
• Experience with local government and sustainability or climate initiatives is an advantage.
• A bachelor's degree in environmental studies, sustainability, energy, environmental justice, or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support climate and clean energy planning initiatives for local governments.
• Assist with grants administration, including proposal development and reporting.
• Coordinate with internal and external partners to manage timelines and deliverables.
• Develop stakeholder tools, resources, reports, and presentations.
• Conduct research and analyze data using spreadsheets, GIS, and related tools.
• Translate findings into case studies, blogs, and concise outputs.
• Draft external communications and maintain communications calendars and websites.
• Provide program support to managers and senior leadership as needed.
• Coordinate meetings and events, including logistics and follow-up.
