Job summary

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of relevant professional experience in climate, sustainability, environmental policy, climate finance, or related analytical work.
• Demonstrated expertise in interpreting and utilizing climate analytics to inform evidence-based decisions, including emissions accounting, climate modeling, scenario analysis, or quantitative policy analysis.
• Outstanding written communication skills, with experience producing reports, policy analyses, and executive-level briefing materials.
• Experience synthesizing complex technical information into concise, actionable recommendations.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Climate Analyst serves as a key member of Ocean Conservancy’s Climate Team, providing analytical, research, and strategic support to advance the organization's climate priorities. Reporting to the Vice President of Climate, this position works across programs to develop data-driven climate and economic analyses, evaluate domestic and international climate policy and finance opportunities, and produce high-quality written products that inform organizational strategy and external engagement.

The ideal candidate combines exceptional quantitative and analytical expertise with a solid understanding of climate science, climate finance, and policy. They are an outstanding writer who can translate complex technical information into compelling products for diverse audiences, including senior leadership, partners, community and private sector stakeholders,policymakers, and funders.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Climate Analytics and Strategic Research

• Conduct and help oversee production of quantitative and qualitative analyses on climate-related issues, including greenhouse gas emissions, decarbonization pathways, and mitigation opportunities.
• Analyze climate data, economic models, financial mechanisms, and policy developments to support organizational priorities, including monitoring and synthesize developments in international, federal, state, and private-sector climate policy and finance.
• Evaluate greenhouse gas emissions, investment, and climate finance trends, investment opportunities, and emerging funding mechanisms relevant to ocean and climate solutions.
• Develop dashboards, briefing materials, and analytical tools that support strategic decision-making across the Climate Team and organization.

Cross-Functional Program Support

• Serve as an analytical resource across Ocean Conservancy’s climate portfolio, collaborating with science, policy, conservation, communications, development, and government affairs teams.
• Support the Vice President for Climate and climate team members in drafting strategy documents and tracking implementation, including for fundraising.
• Support climate team members on implementation including programmatic work on offshore wind, clean shipping, mCDR, and offshore oil and gas.
• Coordinate cross-program projects requiring technical analysis and strategic input on organizational documents.
• Assist with preparation of presentations, executive briefings, and materials for Board meetings and external engagements.

Writing and Communications

• Produce high-quality reports, policy briefs, white papers, grant materials, and technical summaries.
• Translate complex scientific and financial information into clear, accessible communications for varied audiences.
• Produce and contribute content for publications, presentations, thought leadership, and external communications.
• Ensure analytical rigor and consistency across climate-related organizational products.

Partnership and External Engagement

• Support relationships with external experts, academic institutions, NGOs, philanthropic organizations, and private-sector partners.
• Support the Climate Team in developing and executing convenings and events in the United States and internationally.
• Represent the organization in meetings, conferences, and collaborative initiatives as appropriate.
• Assist with preparation of materials supporting coalition engagement and strategic partnerships.

REQUIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant professional experience in climate, sustainability, environmental policy, climate finance, or related analytical work.
• Demonstrated expertise in interpreting and utilizing climate analytics to inform evidence-based decisions, including emissions accounting, climate modeling, scenario analysis, or quantitative policy analysis.
• Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Outstanding written communication skills, with experience producing reports, policy analyses, and executive-level briefing materials.
• Experience synthesizing complex technical information into concise, actionable recommendations.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience working in nonprofit organizations, consulting, philanthropy, government, or international organizations.
• Strong understanding of climate finance, sustainable finance, carbon markets, ESG frameworks, or related financial mechanisms.
• Experience supporting organizational strategy development or executive leadership in late-breaking requests.
• Passion for ocean conservation and the intersection of climate and marine ecosystems.

EDUCATION/TRAINING

Bachelor's degree in environmental science, economics, public policy, finance, engineering, data science, or a related field required.

Graduate degree in climate science, environmental economics, public policy, business, finance, or a related discipline preferred.

COMPENSATION

Ocean Conservancy is committed to fair pay practices and posts expected salary ranges for each of its positions. Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s specialty skills, years of experience, location, and unique background. The expected starting salary range for this role is $70,000 - $80,000 annually. We would welcome the opportunity to connect with potential candidates whose salary requirements may be outside of the expected range.
