Job summary

Ascend is seeking a talented Client Accountant to lead day-to-day delivery in our client accounting practice. You will own a portfolio, review the team’s work, and serve as the escalation point when items don’t tie out.

The role combines hands-on accounting with client-facing interaction, requiring strong GAAP knowledge, QuickBooks Online proficiency, and the ability to optimize processes across multiple engagements.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of client accounting or outsourced accounting experience.
• Supervising, reviewing, or training accounting staff is a plus.
• Working knowledge of GAAP as applied to closely held businesses.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly and quarterly close for a portfolio of clients, including reconciliations and journal entries.
• Prepare and review compiled financial statements and management reports.
• Review payroll processing, sales tax filings, and 1099 reporting.
• Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for client owners and staff.
• Lead onboarding for new engagements, including chart of accounts design and software conversion.
• Coordinate with the tax team to deliver clean year-end books and workpapers.
• Identify and implement process improvements to reduce manual work.
