Job summary

Ingham County Office of the Public Defender is seeking a Clerical Support Specialist to manage file maintenance, document intake, and data entry within the case management system. You will interact with attorneys, clients and courts, ensuring timely updates and accurate records.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Prefer advanced coursework in word processing and legal secretarial areas.
  • One year of clerical support experience is required; experience in a legal setting and knowledge of legal terminology is preferred.
  • Experience with customer management systems and strong communication skills are expected.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews, interprets and processes new and amended Requests for Assigned Counsel and maintains case files and data.
  • Monitors receipt of documents to keep files up to date and ensures accuracy.
  • Communicates with attorneys, clients and courts for clarifications and updates; provides client information by phone or email.
  • Operates the reception desk and assists with mail processing and data entry.
  • Enters information into the Case Management System and retrieves data as needed for inquiries.
  • Assists with training new clerks and provides backup coverage for other clerks.
