Kern High School District is seeking a qualified clerical professional for the Independent Study Program in Bakersfield, CA. You will perform a range of duties related to student registration, enrollment, attendance records, and fiscal reporting.
The role requires accurate data handling, strong communication with students and the public, and adherence to district policies. Starting salary is $2,419.02 per month for a 9.4‑month, 6‑hour workday schedule.
This position requires command of the English language; knowledge of proper office practices and procedures; proper telephone techniques and etiquette; basic policies and procedures related to student registrations, admissions and record maintenance; legal requirements, principles and procedures for student, staff and program records. Must possess the skill to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action; communicate in both oral and written form; maintain record keeping systems and files in a timely manner; type accurately at a rate of 40 net words per minute; operate office machines and equipment including computer terminal, calculator and copy machines; identify and correct errors in a variety of program records and documents, establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties. Two years of increasingly responsible clerical experience including contact with students or the general public, and statistical record keeping on a computer terminal. Bilingual Preferred. A RECENT FIVE MINUTE TYPING CERTIFICATE MUST ACCOMPANY APPLICATION TO BE SUCCESSFUL. Certificates must be less than two years old and cannot be completed through an online website. Kern High School District employees who currently work in a position requiring the same or higher minimum typing speed do not need to submit a typing certificate. A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.
Under supervision perform a variety of responsible clerical duties involved in student registration, enrollment and attendance records maintenance, and fiscal reports in the District's Independent Study Program; may supervise assistants. This position requires the knowledge of specialized areas of program policies and procedures; the ability to exercise independent judgment and problem solving skills, and accuracy in compiling data reports.
