Qualifications

  • Certification or diploma in Medical Office Administration/Assistant program or equivalent preferred.
  • Medical front office experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in medical terminology, billing and coding is required.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Register patients into EHR software and improve scheduling efficiency with the team.

Job description

Clerical Specialist is responsible forefficient operation and flow of patients through the practice.Greet incoming patients, answer telephones, and scheduleappointments and referrals. Collect and update patient information.Accurately handle insurance verification and perform front officeprocedures. Provides clerical services and performs general officeduties. Works with Front Office Lead and Executive leadership tocoordinate front office functions and provide input forimprovements.

JOB DUTIES ANDCOMPETANCIES:
  • Answers incoming telephone calls and process appropriately.Possess warm outgoing personality with excellent telephoneetiquette.
  • Verify and collect patient demographic and insuranceinformation.
  • Registers and schedules patients into EHR software. Works withmanager to develop and implement changes to improve schedulingefficiencies.
  • Collects co-pays and patient payments.
  • Prepares and sends patient correspondence in accordance withpolicy. * Prepares and mails new patient information prior toscheduled office visit.
  • Retrieves and proofs documentation accurateness for billingpurposes.
  • Maintain electronic medical record, scan information accordingto protocol as appropriate.
  • Verify Insurance eligibility/benefits (Eligibility Specialty).All authorizations must have insurance eligibility verified priorto their appointment. Parent must be notified if not eligible.
  • Meets with and assists patients with respect to the insuranceapplication process and sliding scale eligibility, includingpresumptive eligibility
  • Assists in the training and orienting of new clericalstaff
  • Promotes positive provider, organization and communityrelationships.
  • Works under the guidance of the AFHC colleague handbook
  • Responsible for checking emails on a daily basis.
  • Performing other duties as required

  • Skilled in computer applications such as MS Word, Excel
EDUCATION, TRAINING &EXPERIENCE:

Certification or diploma in MedicalOffice Administration/Assistant program or equivalent preferred.Medical front office experience preferred. Knowledge andexperienced in medical terminology, billing and coding is required.Demonstrated skill in computer applications. High school graduateor equivalent.

SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Skilled in computer applications like MS Word, Excel, andPowerPoint.
  • Skilled at handling multiple tasks and works underpressure.
  • Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, medical billing andmedical coding
  • Knowledge of handling general administrative and clericaltasks
  • 5.The ability to communicate with individuals at a variety oflevels within the organization and community.

  • Willingness and ability to work collaboratively with a teamapproach to goals and objectives.
PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS:
  • Able to stand/walk to various departments intermittentlythrough a 8 hour shift.
  • Able to bend to reach items on the floor, desk level, andoverhead.
  • Able to lift books and supplies weighing 25lbs.intermittently.
  • Able to see clearly (with or without lenses) and hear normalspeaking tones.
  • Able to communicate verbally interpersonally and over thetelephone in a clear and concise speech.
  • Able to use hands for tasks (writing, typing, etc.).
