The Cleanroom Production Operator works in an ISO Class 8 cleanroom environment to perform precise, small-scale assemblies and batch manufacturing of advanced biosensor components. This role involves microscope-based assembly, detailed documentation of batch records and raw material usage, and close collaboration with research and development engineers on non-standard builds and prototype processes. The position requires strong manual dexterity, the ability to manage multiple long-cycle processes in parallel, and a commitment to following strict cleanroom procedures and quality standards.
Perform very small mechanical and medical assemblies using hand tools, microscopes, pipettes, and other laboratory equipment while maintaining high accuracy and consistency.
Conduct microscope assembly and detailed visual inspections to verify product quality and identify defects or inconsistencies.
Execute non-standard builds and prototype assemblies in collaboration with research and development engineers, following evolving instructions and processes.
Review, follow, and update paper-based documentation, including batch record reports, paper travelers, and raw material logs, ensuring accurate and complete entries.
Measure and record the amount of raw materials used in the manufacturing lab area and maintain accurate inventory-related documentation.
Run company-specific macros to set times and voltages, operate sensors, prepare solutions, and set products up for calibration.
Support the creation and deposition of enzyme layers over sensor surfaces, ensuring proper setup and preparation for glucose calibration steps.
Work in batch processes, starting with multiple sensors at a time, managing long process steps, and initiating new batches while previous batches are in waiting or processing stages.
Monitor multiple ongoing processes simultaneously, returning to each batch at the appropriate time to move it to the next step while maintaining focus and attention to detail.
Apply strong time management skills to plan daily work, meet production goals, and efficiently handle long cycle times and overlapping tasks.
Use tools such as microscopes, multimeters, and measurement devices to perform dimensional inspections, troubleshooting, and verification of assemblies.
Follow all ISO Class 8 cleanroom policies and procedures, including gowning protocols, contamination control, and restrictions on personal items and fragrances.
Communicate effectively with engineering and manufacturing leadership, providing clear feedback on processes, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
Collaborate closely with a diverse team, actively participating in problem-solving and continuous improvement efforts on the production line.
Support pilot builds and new manufacturing processes by executing instructions from engineering and R&D and helping translate those processes into repeatable floor operations.
Demonstrate a willingness to learn new processes and adapt to a dynamic, start-up style environment with changing build schedules and priorities.
Maintain a high level of focus during processes that may take several hours, staying attentive even during waiting periods and ensuring tasks are completed correctly and on time.
Meet daily production goals while maintaining quality standards and adhering to all safety, documentation, and cleanroom requirements.
Be available and flexible for varying start times and overtime, including occasional Saturday work, as manufacturing requirements and goals demand.
Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly and manual assembly in a production or laboratory environment.
Experience with semi-automated manufacturing processes and equipment.
Proven ability to work with batch records, paper travelers, and other paper-based documentation systems.
Experience with prototype assembly, non-standard builds, and executing instructions from engineering and research and development teams.
Familiarity with cartridge assembly, reagent manufacturing, or kit assembly processes.
Comfort working with microscopes for assembly and visual inspection tasks.
Ability to perform pipetting and other precise manual laboratory techniques.
Experience with dimensional inspection and basic troubleshooting of assemblies and processes.
Ability to effectively communicate and provide feedback to engineering and manufacturing leadership.
Strong time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple long-cycle processes in parallel.
Comfort with start-up mode operations and changing priorities, including adapting to new and evolving processes.
Ability to sit and stand throughout the day and comfortably lift up to 25 pounds.
Demonstrated willingness to learn new processes and go above and beyond standard expectations.
Strong teamwork skills, including the ability to work and collaborate closely with colleagues and support a positive team environment.
Previous experience performing research and development work or supporting R&D-driven manufacturing processes.
Background in medical device assembly, biosensor manufacturing, or related regulated environments.
Experience with good documentation practices in manufacturing or laboratory settings.
Familiarity with using multimeters and other basic electronic test equipment.
Experience driving production lines to achieve pilot builds and meet aggressive manufacturing goals.
Comfort working with more than 100 different processes and learning new procedures quickly.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to absorb and apply complex instructions with minimal supervision.
Self-motivated, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Demonstrated ability to raise issues proactively, offer solutions, and participate in continuous improvement.
Positive, collaborative attitude with a focus on accountability and shared success.
You will join an innovative, late-stage start-up that is developing cutting-edge wearable biosensor technology with the potential to transform medical devices. The environment offers the opportunity to contribute early in the companys growth and to benefit from that growth over time, including access to full benefits and eligibility for stock options upon conversion. The culture emphasizes accountability, empowerment, and open communication, encouraging everyone to raise their hand when something is not right and to help fix issues together. You will be part of a team that values continuous learning, collaboration, and building the kind of workplace people genuinely want to be part of.
This role is based in an ISO Class 8 cleanroom environment with strict adherence to cleanroom policies and procedures. You will wear a gown, mask, gloves, hair cover, and shoe covers while working, and must follow all contamination control rules, including no nail polish, no artificial nails, and no fragrances. Work involves extensive use of microscopes, hand tools, pipettes, multimeters, and other laboratory and inspection equipment, as well as interaction with paper-based documentation systems. The schedule requires flexibility, with possible start times around 6:00 a.m., 6:30 a.m., or 8:00 a.m., and regular availability for overtime, including occasional Saturday work with advance notice. Some processes and cycle times last several hours, so you must remain focused during long runs and waiting periods while managing multiple batches and changing build schedules. The environment is fast-paced, goal-driven, and aligned with start-up operations, where adaptability, self-motivation, and a willingness to go above and beyond are highly valued.
