Capstone On-Campus Management (COCM) is seeking a Cleaning Services Technician to maintain cleanliness and appearance of residential buildings and common areas at Discovery House at University of Maryland. Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least one year of housekeeping, custodial, facilities, hospitality, or residential community experience preferred.
  • Must have troubleshooting and communication skills.
  • Verbal communication skills, including reading comprehension.
  • Must be a team player and show initiative.
  • Must be punctual, organized, and able to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain residential common areas (hallways, stairwells, elevators, lounges, offices, restrooms, trash/recycling rooms).
  • Sweep, scrub, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize and disinfect interior/exterior areas.
  • Clean carpets, windows, blinds, walls, ceilings, fixtures, and woodwork.
  • Transport materials to trash/recycling dumpsters and maintain waste areas.
  • Replenish cleaning supplies to keep facilities stocked and sanitary.
  • Assist with apartment turnover and move-in/move-out cleaning as needed.
  • Complete housekeeping checklists and schedules on time.

Location: Discovery House at University of Maryland

Compensation: $20.50 - $21.50 per hour with comprehensive benefits package

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Capstone On-Campus Management (COCM), with headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama, is a group of student housing professionals focused exclusively on the management of housing communities owned by non-profits and/or highly affiliated with a university.

Summary

The Cleaning Services Technician is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall appearance of residential buildings, common areas, and surrounding grounds within a student housing community. This position plays a key role in creating a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained living environment for residents, guests, and campus partners. Responsibilities include routine cleaning, sanitation, waste and recycling collection/disposal, event support, inspections, and special project work throughout the community. The Cleaning Services Technician is expected to complete assignments efficiently and professionally while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, and customer service. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, reliability, teamwork, and a positive, service-oriented attitude in all interactions with residents, coworkers, vendors, and visitors.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Clean and maintain residential common areas, including hallways, stairwells, elevators, lounges, offices, public restrooms, trash rooms, recycling rooms, and other shared spaces
  • Sweep, scrub, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize, and disinfect assigned interior and exterior areas to ensure high standards of cleanliness and presentation
  • Clean carpets, rugs, upholstered furniture, windows, blinds, walls, ceilings, lighting fixtures, doors, and woodwork as needed
  • Responsible for the ongoing collection, removal, and proper disposal of trash and recyclable materials from interior trash rooms, common areas, and exterior areas throughout the site.
  • Duties include transporting materials to designated trash dumpsters and recycling containers and maintaining clean and orderly waste collection areas.
  • Replenish restroom and cleaning supplies to maintain properly stocked and sanitary facilities
  • Clean resident units when assigned and assist with apartment turnover preparation as needed during move-in and move-out periods
  • Complete all assigned housekeeping checklists, cleaning schedules, and project assignments accurately and on time
Safety, Sustainability & Inventory
  • Follow all safety procedures and properly utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Support university and community sustainability initiatives through proper waste sorting, recycling collection, and responsible chemical usage
  • Maintain custodial equipment, carts, tools, and supplies in clean and organized condition
  • Monitor inventory levels of custodial supplies and communicate replenishment needs to supervisors in a timely manner
  • Ensure assigned areas consistently meet community appearance, cleanliness, sanitation, and safety standards
Customer Service & Teamwork
  • Respond to resident, student, staff, and guest requests in a professional, respectful, and customer-focused manner
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment through reliability, communication, and a willingness to support operational needs
  • Assist with securing buildings as assigned, including locking/unlocking doors and reporting suspicious activity or safety concerns
  • Perform additional duties and special projects assigned to support community operations and resident satisfaction

  • Must have personal initiative when seeing a need for cleaning within the community.
  • Must be punctual, organized, and able to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb stairs, and perform physical cleaning tasks throughout scheduled shift
  • Ability to move and lift up to 50 lbs.
