Job summary

Block by Block is hiring a Cleaning Ambassador to enhance public spaces by keeping streets and sidewalks clean and safe. You will greet pedestrians, guide residents, and perform cleaning tasks in your assigned zone while maintaining a friendly, professional demeanor.

The role emphasizes outdoor work, weekend availability, and the ability to operate under all weather conditions, with a supportive environment and weekly compensation.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• H.S. Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to walk or stand for an eight-hour shift with breaks.
• Ability to work outdoors in all conditions.
• Must speak, read, and write English to create basic reports.

Responsibilities

• Carry out cleaning tasks in the assigned zone with a positive, professional demeanor.
• Acknowledge and engage pedestrians with friendly greetings and provide directions.
• Remove litter, graffiti, posters from urban fixtures and clean streets/sidewalks.
• Pull weeds at tree wells, cracks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces like trash can lids and news boxes.
• Monitor for unsafe activity and report to Safety Ambassadors; complete basic daily task reports.

What You'll Be Doing :

• This role will provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and/or city information.
• Litter removal -- While moving through the zone with a rolling trash can that has supplies/tools, remove litter: fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, and other debris on the streets/sidewalks and alleys. Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, etc.
• Pull weeds that grow at the base of tree wells, in cracks in the sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, such as trash can lids, news boxes, etc.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to the Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios. Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.

Requirements:

• Experience preferred, but not required. We will train.
• Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions (free uniforms provided)
• Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports.
