Job summary

Block-by-Block California is seeking a Cleaning Ambassador to help keep public spaces clean and welcoming. This outdoor role offers weekend/evening shifts with competitive hourly pay and paid time off benefits.

You'll engage with pedestrians, perform litter removal, weed pulling, graffiti removal, and report safety concerns. Prior cleaning experience is preferred but we provide training; must be 18+ and able to pass background checks.

Qualifications

• One year cleaning experience preferred; training provided.
• Must be able to walk/stand for an eight-hour shift with breaks.
• Must be at least 18 years old and pass a background check.

Responsibilities

• Carry out cleaning tasks in assigned zones with a positive demeanor.
• Greet pedestrians and provide directions or info as needed.
• Remove litter, graffiti, posters; pull weeds from sidewalks and lots.
• Dampen and straighten outdoor surfaces; monitor for security concerns.

Job Description

Pay Range: $21.50per hour (Weekly Pay & Pay Advance Before Pay Day!)

Shift/Schedule:

• Friday 10am-6:30pm, Saturday is 2:30pm-6:30pm and Sunday 10am-6:30pm.

Flexibility is required as special events require later evening hours up to 9:30-10pm.

What You’ll Be Doing :

• This role will provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the zone assigned. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and/or city information.
• Litter removal -- While moving through the zone with a rolling trash can that has supplies/tools, remove litter: fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts and other debris on the streets/sidewalks and alleys. Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, etc.
• Pull weeds that grow at the base of tree wells, in cracks in the sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, such as trash can lids, news boxes, etc.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to the Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios. Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed which requires being proficient in speaking, reading and writing the English language.

Requirements:

• One year of cleaning experience preferred. We will train.
• Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED
• Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be able to successfully pass a background check and drug test.
• Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions (free uniforms provided)
• Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports.
