Job summary

Fordham University seeks a Cleaner I (N) to provide overnight custodial coverage for McMahon Hall on the Lincoln Center Campus, keeping high-traffic residential spaces clean and safe, including dorms, lounges, restrooms, laundry, and event areas. Shifts run Sat–Sun 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.

and Mon–Wed 11:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m. Duties include cleaning and sanitizing spaces, waste removal, floor and carpet care, equipment operation, and support for university operations and events.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Six (6) months to one year of prior cleaning experience.
• Must be able to read English and follow written instructions.
• Knowledge of general cleaning techniques and preventative maintenance, including safe use of cleaning equipment.
• Knowledge of handheld tools.

Responsibilities

• Cleans and sanitizes dormitories, common areas, restrooms, laundry rooms, and lounges.
• Performs waste collection, removal, recycling and replacement of waste receptacles as required.
• Performs routine floor and carpet cleaning and maintenance using custodial equipment.
• Operates custodial equipment, including floor machines, vacuums, power washers, and other cleaning equipment as assigned.
• Provides setup, relocation, and other custodial support for University operations and events as needed.
• Performs snow and ice removal, including shoveling and related winter-weather duties, as required.

The Cleaner I (N) position provides dedicated overnight custodial coverage for McMahon Hall, a 24/7 residential facility at the Lincoln Center Campus. The position maintains sanitation and cleanliness across high-traffic residential spaces, including laundry facilities, elevators, common-area restrooms, event venues, and shared lounges. The role also supports waste management, routine floor and carpet maintenance, and building-specific operational requests.

Schedule:
Saturday & Sunday: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Monday – Wednesday: 11:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.

Essential Functions

• Cleans and sanitizes dormitories, common areas, restrooms, laundry rooms, elevators, classrooms, event spaces, offices, and other assigned University spaces.
• Performs waste collection, removal, recycling, and replacement of waste receptacles as required.
• Performs routine floor and carpet cleaning and maintenance using appropriate custodial equipment.
• Cleans and maintains high-use and shared spaces to provide safe and sanitary conditions for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
• Operates custodial equipment, including floor machines, vacuums, power washers, and other cleaning equipment as assigned.
• Provides setup, relocation, and other custodial support for University operations and events as needed.
• Performs snow and ice removal, including shoveling and related winter-weather duties, as required.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience
