Job summary

Penn College seeks a custodian to perform general housekeeping in student residences and campus buildings. The role requires flexibility for evenings, weekends, events, and occasional travel between buildings. Schedule is Monday–Friday, 5 p.m.

to 10 p.m., with overtime as needed and snow closures on scheduled workdays. Responsibilities include trash disposal, cleaning of living spaces and bathrooms, floor care, window washing, and maintaining supplies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license required (in-state).
• Experience as a custodian preferred.
• Familiarity with automated cleaning equipment preferred.
• Ability to read, write and interpret instructions.
• Possession of a valid driver's license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Dispose of trash and clean common living spaces.
• Empty cigarette urns and clean as necessary.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and shampoo carpeted areas.
• Clean restrooms and replenish supplies.
• Wash windows and door glass; clean laundry areas.
• Replace light bulbs; maintain housekeeping equipment.
• Set up areas for events and may supervise work study students.
• Respond to cleanup calls and secure buildings on departure.

Job description

Overview

Perform general housekeeping and custodial duties in the College’s student residences, as well as other campus duties as needed. Work hours are determined by the College and may vary based on departmental and institutional needs, including differences between the academic year and summer schedules. This position will be required to work during delays and snow closures that fall on scheduled workdays.

The role requires flexibility, including occasional overtime (often on short notice), as well as evening, weekend, special event, and call-in work at the discretion of the supervisor. Employees may be assigned to different buildings or locations to meet operational needs and may occasionally be required to travel out of the area. Campus-wide coverage is expected.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 5 p.m. to -10 p.m.

Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent. Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

• Valid and in State Valid Driver's License. Required

Experience

• Experience as a custodian. Preferred
• Familiarity with automated cleaning equipment. Preferred

Responsibilities

• Wash windows and door glass.
• Clean laundry rooms to include washers and dryers, sinks, and counters.
• Clean Police guard areas.
• Clean apartments at the end of each semester or when vacated.
• Strip and refinish floors and maintain all types of floor surfaces.
• Sweep stairs and stairwells and wash same.
• Remove ice and snow from stairs, entrances, and walks.
• Wash walls, window ledges, woodwork, furnishings; remove graffiti.
• Replace light bulbs and tubes; clean light fixtures.
• Keep area stocked with cleaning supplies; submit supply and repair requisitions to Supervisor.
• Check exterior areas for trash, broken glass, etc., and clean up as necessary.
• Keep housekeeping equipment clean and perform minor repairs on same.
• Respond to calls requesting clean up as needed.
• When leaving buildings, responsible for seeing that buildings are properly secured.
• Perform minor repairs of housekeeping equipment.

Additional Responsibilities

• May direct activities of work study students.
• Set up areas for special events as requested.
• Function as an attendant at special College events.

Physical Standards and Special Job Features

• Exposure to dust and harsh chemicals in performing duties.
• Lifting of 65 lbs. maximum without assistance with frequent lifting and carrying of objects up to 50 lbs.
• May require travel between buildings during shift.
• May require climbing or working from ladders and scaffolding.

Pay Transparency

$16.40 per hour, plus shift differential
