Job summary

Robinson & Cole LLP is seeking a CLE Specialist to support the Attorney Career Development team in administering and enhancing the firm's Continuing Legal Education program across offices. You will collaborate on internal and external CLE events, track credits, ensure accreditation, and respond to audits while driving process improvements.

The role requires 3–5 years of CLE experience in a law firm, familiarity with state CLE rules, and a hybrid work model with in-office collaboration a few days

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three to five years of directly related continuing legal education experience in a law firm environment.
  • Knowledge of CLE procedures and requirements across states where the firm operates.
  • Experience in a large, multi-office AmLaw 200 or comparable professional services environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and fulfill internal CLE events with the Attorney Career Development Manager and Firm's Professional Development Committee.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for internal CLE program administration: intake, credit eligibility, materials, tracking, certificates, records, and post-program follow-up.
  • Coordinate client CLE events in partnership with Attorneys and Marketing Department.
  • Provide guidance on CLE requirements, timelines, documentation, attendance procedures, and jurisdiction-specific considerations.
  • Prepare, submit, track, and follow up CLE applications for internal and external programs.
  • Review program materials for completeness and compliance with CLE requirements.
  • Draft internal communications regarding training and CLE opportunities and requirements.
  • Prepare attorney-facing communications on CLE credit availability, attendance, and logistics.
  • Develop and maintain spreadsheets, databases, and reports to track CLE compliance and programs.
  • Maintain accurate program records for year-end reporting and audits; respond to auditor requests.
  • Monitor and communicate CLE rule changes in key states and assess operational impact.

Job description

The CLE Specialist supports the Attorney Career Development team and is responsible for the advanced administration, coordination, compliance support, and ongoing enhancement of the firm's Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program for all offices. The position works closely with the Attorney Career Development Manager to plan, administer, track, and evaluate CLE credits for internal attorney training and professional development programs. The position also works in conjunction with the Marketing & Business Development department and attorneys throughout the firm to assess, coordinate, and administer CLE credits for external client programs. The CLE Specialist maintains familiarity with CLE rules and requirements in various jurisdictions and exercises independent judgment in supporting accreditation, issuance of credit, maintenance of accredited provider status, audit responses, and communications regarding training and professional development CLE opportunities. The CLE Specialist also works with the Talent Management team on project-based assignments, lawyer integration, mentoring support, and other firm projects, with a focus on process improvement, accuracy, service, and consistency across offices.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Work with Attorney Career Development Manager and the Firm's Professional Development Committee to assess, plan, coordinate and fulfill needs for internal CLE events.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for internal CLE program administration, including program intake, credit eligibility review, application preparation, attendance tracking, materials collection, certificate coordination, record maintenance, and post-program follow-up.
  • Work with attorneys and Marketing Department to assess, plan, coordinate and fulfill needs for client CLE events.
  • Provide practical guidance to attorneys, presenters, and Marketing & Business Development colleagues regarding CLE program requirements, timelines, documentation, attendance procedures, and jurisdiction‑specific considerations.
  • Prepare, submit, track and follow up on necessary CLE application(s) for all internal and external programs.
  • Review program materials, agendas, speaker information, attendance records, evaluations, and related documentation for completeness and consistency with applicable CLE requirements.
  • Draft internal communications regarding training and professional development CLE opportunities.
  • Prepare attorney‑facing communications regarding CLE credit availability, attendance requirements, program logistics, compliance reminders, online learning tools, and other CLE‑related matters.
  • Develop, maintain, and update spreadsheets, charts, databases, and other administrative support to assist the tracking of CLE compliance and running of CLE‑accredited programs.
  • Maintain accurate and organized program records for year‑end reporting and to respond to requests from Firm's attorneys.
  • Respond to audits; seek, apply for and maintain accredited provider status in various states.
  • Monitor and communicate changes to CLE rules and regulations in states of primary importance to Firm's attorneys
  • Evaluate the operational impact of CLE rule changes and recommend updates to internal procedures, templates, trackers, communications, and program workflows as appropriate.
  • Maintain professional development online learning tools (e.g., viDesktop, PLI, InterAction).
  • Manage the integration between the online learning tools; troubleshoot and respond to attorney questions on access and use of these tools.
  • Identify recurring system issues, data inconsistencies, process gaps, and user questions, and recommend improvements to increase accuracy, efficiency, and attorney service.
  • Generate CLE‑related reports, summaries, and tracking materials for Talent Management leadership, attorneys, and other stakeholders as requested.
  • Assist with other Talent Management administrative responsibilities as needed.
  • Take ownership of assigned CLE processes from intake through completion, including stakeholder coordination, deadline management, documentation, accreditation, reporting, and follow‑up.
  • Assign and monitor tasks within the lawyer integration application and assist with lawyer mentoring programs.
Experience Required

Must have a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of directly related continuing legal education experience in a law firm environment during which knowledge, skills, and abilities relevant to this position were demonstrated. Prior experience in a law firm environment is required, and experience in a large, multi‑office, AmLaw 200, or comparable professional services environment is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of CLE procedures and requirements in the states in which the Firm maintains an office.

Education

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

MA Applicants: Please note that the target base salary range for this position is $75,000 to $85,000. Actual base salary within that range will be determined by several components including but not limited to the individual's years of experience, skills, qualifications, and office location.
