Job summary

Transdev in Lancaster, California is hiring a Classroom Trainer to facilitate classroom and behind-the-wheel training to drivers. We are seeking customer service-oriented professionals who are dedicated to safety.

Job Type: Full Time. The role reports to the Assistant General Manager and involves maintaining training documentation to ensure compliance with state certification and company policies, plus conducting safety program responsibilities and on-the-scene investigations as needed.

Qualifications

  • Two years minimum CMV driving experience required.
  • 1–3 years transportation and safety experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal and state safety rules and regulations required.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • DOT Instructors Course for Transit Trainers preferred.
  • Supervisory experience with hourly employees preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Report to Assistant General Manager (AGM).
  • Provide classroom and behind-the-wheel training to new drivers.
  • Maintain training documentation and ensure compliance with state certification and company policies.
  • Lead safety program responsibilities including accident investigation and safety meetings.
  • Communicate job requirements and responsibilities to drivers.
  • Schedule daily activities, counsel drivers, and submit evaluation reports to local management.
  • Conduct on-the-scene accident investigations and assist drivers with reports and OSHA documentation.
  • Develop and host driver training and safety courses; retrain drivers after incidents.
  • Observe drivers on the road and address safety issues while documenting violations.
  • Serve as liaison between drivers, customers, and the organization on safety concerns.
  • Monitor driver safety and performance for regulatory and policy compliance.
  • Assist Safety Manager with DOT/FTA compliance and drug testing/recordkeeping.
  • Occasionally drive routes as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Report to Assistant General Manager (AGM)
  • Provide classroom and behind-the-wheel training to new drivers
  • Maintain required training documentation and completion for compliance with state certification, company policies and district, state & federal requirements.
  • Additional safety program responsibilities such as, accident investigation, forms compliance, & safety meetings
  • Communicate job requirements and responsibilities to drivers.
  • Day to day scheduling, counseling, and submitting evaluation reports to local management.
  • Conduct on-the-scene accident investigations; assist drivers in preparing accident reports, OSHA reports and safety violations documents.
  • Develop and host driver training and safety courses; train new drivers and retrain drivers involved in accidents.
  • Observe drivers on the road - correct safety problems on the scene while documenting violations.
  • Liaison between drivers and both the customers and organization in customer service concerns
  • Evaluate and monitor driver safety and performance in compliance with legal, employment and labor policy matters.
  • Assist Safety Manager with DOT/FTA compliance - drug testing and recordkeeping.
  • Drive routes periodically.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years' experience driving a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV)
  • 1 to 3 years transportation & safety experience.
  • Knowledge of federal and state safety rules and regulations.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • TSI – Instructors Course for Transit Trainers
  • Supervisory experience with hourly employees; 2-3 years transit supervisory experience preferred
  • Computer literate - basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.
  • Assists Safety Manager with DOT/FTA compliance regarding drug testing and recordkeeping
  • Meets all driver qualifications at location
  • Assists in dispatching, driving, interviewing, and miscellaneous clerical tasks as needed
  • Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
  • The employee is generally subjected to long periods spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer screen.
  • Work environment will be a combination of both indoors and outdoors.
