Job summary

Hartford HealthCare’s Natchaug Hospital seeks a Teacher to lead classroom instruction for 6–8 students in a Clinical Day Treatment setting at Norwich. You will coordinate academic expectations with the sending school district and serve as liaison between home and clinical staff to support student progress.

This 10-month schedule comes with tuition assistance, health insurance, paid time off, and a 401(k) with employer match.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree +30 credits or MA required.
• Current CT State Department of Education certification required.
• Current or pending special education certification required.
• Experience working with children/adolescents in educational settings preferred.
• Experience with emotionally/behaviorally challenged students a plus.
• Knowledge of special education laws and student learning styles a plus.

Natchaug Hospital is Eastern Connecticut’s leading provider for children, adolescents and adults with mental illness and substance abuse addictions. We offer a variety of programs including inpatient and outpatient behavioral health, residential treatment for court-involved teenage girls, geriatric services, clinical day treatment schools and chemical dependency services. The schools are located at five sites throughout Eastern Connecticut. Natchaug CDT offers special education services to students in grades 1–12 whose social, emotional or behavioral health problems prevent them from functioning successfully in a regular school environment. Each student’s individual academic and clinical treatment plan is designed to address their special needs and return them to their regular schools as soon as possible.

The Teacher is responsible for classroom instruction for 6-8 students in a Clinical Day Treatment environment at Natchaug Hospital. These small classes and focused teams equate to successful student outcomes and a healthy work-life balance for staff. Coordinate academic expectations with the sending school district. Serve as the liaison between the home school and clinical staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree +30 credits or MA required
• Current certification from the CT State Department of Education
• Current or pending special education certification required
• Experience working with children and adolescents in an educational setting (public or private).
• Experience working with children and/or adolescents with behavioral and emotional needs preferred
• Knowledge of education procedures for working with/teaching emotionally disturbed students, a plus
• Knowledge of special education laws and regulations, child and adolescent growth and development, and student learning styles, a plus
