Job summary

West Burlington Independent School District is seeking Substitute Associates to support certified staff and assist students in the classroom. You will help reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics and computer instruction, working with students individually or in small groups.

Responsibilities include assisting with assessments, classroom preparations, behavior management, and supervising non-instructional areas such as lunch and study halls, along with field trips.

Qualifications

• Ability to follow written or oral instructions.
• Basic arithmetic skills for classroom support.
• Computer literacy with Word/Excel.
• Strong written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Assist and guide students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
• Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning.
• Assist professional staff in administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessments.
• Assist in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.
• Assist with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
• Assist with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task.
• Assist students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising lunch, bus duty, playground duty, and study hall.
• Accompany students on field trips for supervision.
• Construct, copy, distribute and use educational materials as needed.
• Assist teacher with parent contact to foster effective involvement in student education.
• Follow safety rules, procedures and regulations governing assistance for all students, including those with disabilities.
