Job summary

Fairfax County Public Schools seeks an instructional assistant to support teachers and students in a general or special education classroom. You will help implement lesson plans, assist with activities, monitor student behavior, and provide reading support.

The role involves working with individuals or small groups, preparing materials, and assisting with technology and assessments. A minimum high school diploma and relevant experience are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of experience with children (volunteer or paid).
• For Title I: associate degree or 48 credit hours or equivalent knowledge.
• Knowledge of child development and instructional practices.
• Ability to implement instructional plans and monitor behavior.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and speech.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers with curricular and instructional tasks.
• Provide activities for general or special education students.
• Reinforce learning and remedial instruction.
• Support individualized programs and progress monitoring.
• Prepare instructional materials and reports as needed.
• Supervise groups of students and monitor behavior.
• Read to students and aid reading strategies.
• Assist with technology labs and equipment.
