Job summary

Benhaven School in Wallingford, CT is seeking a dedicated paraeducator to support students and teachers in a dynamic classroom setting. This full-time role runs Monday–Friday, 9:00am–4:30pm (37.5 hours per week) year-round, providing essential assistance with lessons, small groups, behavior management, and resource setup.

Ideal candidates hold a high school diploma and can obtain an A-Endorsement driver's license. Experience with children and disabilities is a plus; training is provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to obtain an A-Endorsement driver's license (must have a driver's license for 3 years).
• Experience in education is preferred.
• Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities is a plus (training provided).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team.
• Patience, empathy and a genuine desire to help students succeed.
• Flexibility to meet changing needs of students and teachers.
• Willingness to undergo a background check and comply with school policies.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers in implementing lesson plans and classroom activities.
• Work with individual students or small groups to provide additional support and guidance.
• Help to manage student behavior and maintain a safe and respectful learning environment.
• Provide assistance with classroom materials and resources, such as organizing materials and setting up equipment.
• Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to meet the individual needs of students.
• Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers to provide updates on student progress and performance.
• Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in education and special education best practices.
• Cross-training with residential to accommodate transportation needs.
