Job summary

Wake County Public School System is seeking an Instructional Assistant (IA) to support teachers in diverse classrooms across elementary, middle, and high schools. Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Six semester hours of coursework in childhood education, or two years of work experience in a childhood setting is required.
• CPI certification may be required depending on the school; CPI training will be provided by WCPSS.
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides assistance with activities and duties that implement the total school program, assisting teachers in instructional activities, and ensuring a safe, encouraging environment for all students.
• Assists teachers with planning, organizing, evaluating instructional activities, and preparing materials; makes materials readily available for lessons.
• Demonstrates professional and technical skills to function effectively in the classroom and support the school program.
• Works with individual students or groups in different classrooms as needed.
• Participates in district staff development and ongoing professional growth in the area of assignment.
• Maintains a positive disposition, exercises good judgement, and stays calm with students at all times.
• May assist with vision and hearing screenings; records results in the student information system.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
