Job summary

JPS John R. Lewis Elementary is seeking a dedicated Teacher Assistant to join our team. This full-time role supports classroom teachers, helps deliver high-quality instruction, and fosters a positive learning environment for all students.

The ideal candidate holds a high school diploma (associate degree preferred) and has experience with children. Excellent communication, patience, and teamwork are essential to support student success and safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
• Experience with children in educational settings is desirable.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.
• Ability to work collaboratively and follow directions from the classroom teacher.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with educational technology.
• Ability to adapt to various learning styles and needs of students.
• Background check and clearance to work with children required.
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom teacher in preparing instructional materials.
• Support students with learning activities individually or in small groups.
• Monitor student progress and behavior to maintain a safe classroom environment.
• Help maintain an organized classroom and learning materials.
• Collaborate with teachers to implement lesson plans and educational activities.
• Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff to support student success.
• Assist with administrative tasks such as grading assignments and maintaining student records.
• Supervise students during recess, lunch, and other non-instructional times.
• Foster a positive and inclusive classroom culture that encourages engagement.
