Job summary

Montgomery County Educational Service Center in Alabama seeks an instructional assistant to support certified staff and students in the classroom. The role focuses on reinforcing reading, language arts, and math, both individually and in small groups, while supporting instructional programs and behavior management.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Successful completion of college level coursework or passing of examination as required by No Child Left Behind Act.
• Prior experience with special needs children desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist and guide students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
• Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement programs.
• Assist professional staff in administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessments.
• Assist with classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.
• Assist with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
• Assist with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions and keep students on task.
• Assist students in non-instructional areas such as lunch, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, study hall, and related areas.
• Accompany students on field trips for supervision.
• Construct, copy, distribute, and use educational materials as needed.
• Assist teacher with parent contact to foster involvement in student education.
• Assist students with special needs to maximize inclusion and achievement.
