Job summary

Merakey in Altoona, PA is seeking a Classroom Aide to support a certified Special Education Teacher in delivering instructional programs to children with disabilities. • Monitor students’ performance and record data to assess progress.
• Assist children individually or in small groups to reinforce learning concepts.
• Participate in parent–teacher conferences as appropriate.
• Assist in bus loading/unloading of students from transportation.
• Fulfill duties of a Behavior Technician as needed.
• Other duties to meet programmatic needs.

Position Details and Duties

The Classroom Aide is a school employee who works under the direction of a certified Special Education Teacher to support and assist in providing instructional programs and services to children with disabilities or eligible young children. The support and assistance include one-on-one, or group review of material taught by certificated staff, classroom management, and implementation of positive behavioral support plans. Services may be provided in a special education class, regular class, or instructional setting as provided in the students’ IEP.

• Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, etc. as assigned by the
  classroom teacher.
• Supervise students in designated areas and as assigned (e.g. hallways, bathrooms, cafeterias,
  playground, gym, field trips, etc.).
• Monitor all classroom students’ performance and record relevant data daily to assess progress.
• Assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master and reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
• Participate in parent – teacher conferences, as appropriate
• Assist in bus loading and unloading of students from transportation.
• Will fulfill duties of a Behavior Technician as needed.
• Other appropriate duties as assigned to meet programmatic needs.

Requirements

• Have completed at least 2 years of post-secondary study; or
• Possess an associate degree or higher or has 60 credits
• 1 – 3 years relevant verifiable experience
• experience in providing instructional programs and services to children with disabilities or eligible young children, classroom management, and implementation of positive behavioral support plans.
