Job summary

Merakey is seeking a Classroom Aide in Mt. Pleasant, PA to support a certified Special Education Teacher and provide instructional support to children with disabilities.

The role involves one-on-one and small-group review, classroom management, and implementing positive behavioral support plans in various settings. You will work under certificated staff, collaborate with teams, and help prepare materials, supervise students, and monitor progress.

Qualifications

• At minimum, meet one of the qualifications per Chapter 14.105.
• Two years of post-secondary study or an associate degree.
• Credential of Competency for Special Education Paraeducators in PA plus experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepare lesson materials and displays as assigned.
• Supervise students in designated areas and on field trips.
• Monitor student performance and record progress daily.
• Assist in small groups to reinforce learning concepts.
• Participate in parent–teacher conferences and transportation duties.
• Fulfill duties of a Behavior Technician as needed.

Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, etc. as assigned by the

classroom teacher.

Present subject matter & planned lessons to students under the direction and guidance of teacher in a group setting.

Supervise students in designated areas and as assigned (e.g. hallways, bathrooms, cafeterias,

playground, gym, field trips, etc.).

Monitor all classroom students’ performance and record relevant data daily to assess progress.

Assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master and reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.

Participate in parent – teacher conferences, as appropriate

Assist in bus loading and unloading of students from transportation.

Will fulfill duties of a Behavior Technician as needed.

Complete New Hire Competency Assessment process

Successfully pass safe crisis management training as required by program

Other appropriate duties as assigned to meet programmatic needs.

Qualifications & Experience

At minimum, a Classroom Aide shall meet one of the following qualifications per Chapter 14.105:

i. Have completed at least 2 years of post-secondary study OR

ii. Possess an associate degree OR

iii. Meet a rigorous standard of quality through completion of Credential of Competency for
Special Education Paraeducators in Pennsylvania and 5 years of relative experience.

Associate degree or higher is preferred.

Position Details and Duties

The Classroom Aide is a school employee who works under the direction of a certified Special Education Teacher to support and assist in providing instructional programs and services to children with disabilities or eligible young children. Services may be provided in a special education class, regular class, or instructional setting as provided in the students’ IEP.
