Job summary

Smiths Detection is seeking an Assistant Facility Security Officer (AFSO) in Edgewood, MD to administer security measures under the FSO for classified and unclassified contracts. Responsibilities include handling classified material, reviewing DD-254s, updating NISS, and administering training for cleared staff.

The role supports policy alignment with NISPOM and related requirements. The position requires 1–3 years in a government-secured environment and a Bachelor’s degree.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 1–3 years’ experience in gov’t-secured environment as an AFSO.
• Active Secret or Top Secret clearance required or in process.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary security contact for site issues and backup for DCSA.
• Manage classification, handling, storage and destruction of classified material per 32 CFR Part 117 NISPOM.
• Review DD-254s and ensure facility compliance with security requirements.
• Provide security training to all cleared employees annually and on hire.
• Maintain eligibility and update security systems and badges; support internal documentation.
