Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks qualified staff to evaluate inmate records and guide custody changes and program placements. You will chair the institutional classification committee and coordinate a fair system for about 250 inmates, with periodic progress reviews and interviews to assess adjustment.

You will also respond to inquiries, manage inmate histories in the SCDC system, and perform related duties. Four weeks of basic training is required after hire.

Qualifications

• State of South Carolina requires a high school diploma and related experience; a bachelor's degree may substitute.
• SCDC Minimum Requirements include a bachelor's, or an associate degree with 1 year related experience, or a high school diploma with 2 years related experience.
• Must complete four weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate inmate records (automated and manual) to determine eligibility for institutional assignment, custody changes, jobs, and treatment programs.
• Serve as chairperson of the institutional classification committee.
• Coordinate an equitable classification system for a caseload of ~250 inmates.
• Conduct periodic reviews of inmates' progress.
• Interview inmates regarding institutional adjustment or related problems.
• Respond to information inquiries from departmental officials and other agencies.
• Enter/retrieve inmate history data in the SCDC computer system.
• Perform related duties as required.

• Serves as chairperson of the institutional classification committee.
• Coordinates an equitable classification system for a caseload of approximately 250 inmates.
• Conducts periodic reviews of inmate's progress.
• Interviews inmates relating to their general institutional adjustment or related problems.
• Responds to inquiries of information from departmental officials and other agencies.
• Operates the SCDC computer system to enter/retrieve information pertaining to inmate's social, criminal, educational and family history.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Training Requirements

Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
