Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a Classification Case Manager to evaluate inmate records and determine eligibility for assignments, custody changes, jobs, and programs, under general supervision. The role includes chairing the institutional classification committee and managing a caseload of about 250 inmates.

Duties include interviewing inmates, responding to inquiries, and maintaining inmate history in the SCDC computer system.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and related experience.
• Bachelor''s degree may be substituted for the required related experience.
• One year of administrative and/or correctional experience can substitute for the degree requirements.
• Two years of related experience may substitute for a part of the degree requirements.

• Serves as chairperson of the institutional classification committee.


• Coordinates an equitable classification system for a caseload of approximately 250 inmates.


• Conducts periodic reviews of inmate's progress.


• Interviews inmates relating to their general institutional adjustment or related problems.


• Responds to inquiries of information from departmental officials and other agencies.


• Operates the SCDC computer system to enter/retrieve information pertaining to inmate's social, criminal, educational and family history.


• Performs other related duties as required.

Additional Requirement

Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
