Job summary

System One is seeking a Class A Progressive Tool & Die Maker to join our Stormville, NY operations onsite. You will build, fit, bench-test, repair, and troubleshoot high-precision dies for miniature components, working on Bruderer high-speed presses up to 1,200 SPM.

The role emphasizes quality, efficiency, and tooling integrity, with overtime and bonus eligibility. Responsibilities include die setup, optimization, and working with Copper Beryllium alloys, requiring 1–3 years of die-building

Qualifications

• 1–3 years progressive die build experience
• Experience troubleshooting die performance on the production floor
• Familiarity with GD&T and ISO 9001
• Bruderer high-speed presses (e.g., BSTA 30V2) setup and troubleshooting at 1,000+ SPM
• Experience in precision microstamping and tight-tolerance progressive dies
• Familiarity with Copper Beryllium (C17200) and related materials

Responsibilities

• Build, fit, and bench-test new dies before production release.
• Repair, rework, and troubleshoot dies at the bench to minimize downtime.
• Diagnose root causes of die-related quality issues and implement tooling changes.
• Build and maintain microstamping tooling for miniature components.
• Set up, dial in, and run progressive dies on high-speed presses at speeds up to 1,200 SPM.
• Continuously optimize die and press parameters to maintain quality and extend tool life.
• Handle materials like Copper Beryllium, managing wear, clearances and finishes.

Job description

Job Title: Class A Progressive Tool & Die Maker
Location: Stormville, NY
Type: Direct Hire
Compensation: $40-$55/hr plus overtime plus bonus eligibility
Work Model: Onsite – onsite
Hours: 7:30a to 3:30p

Responsibilities

• Tool Building & Bench Work:
  • a. Build, fit, and bench-test new dies to ensure correct function prior to production release.
  • b. Perform hands-on die repair, rework, and troubleshooting at the bench to keep dies running and minimize production downtime.
  • c. Diagnose root causes of die-related quality issues, such as part defects, wear, and misfeeds, and implement corrective tooling changes.
  • d. Build and maintain fine-pitch, tight-tolerance microstamping tooling for high-speed production of miniature components.
• High-Speed Press Setup & Optimization:
  • a. Set up, dial in, and run progressive dies on Bruderer high-speed presses (e.g., BSTA 30V2) at sustained speeds up to 1,200 SPM.
  • b. Continuously optimize die and press parameters to hold quality at speed while extending tool life and reducing downtime and scrap.
  • c. Handle and machine high-strength alloys such as Copper Beryllium (C172), applying best practices for tooling wear, clearances, and finish.

Requirements

• Minimum 1-3 years of progressive die build experience in a precision metal stamping environment, formal training in tool & die building is beneficial, though equivalent hands-on experience will be given full consideration in lieu of formal education.
• Demonstrated track record of building dies that consistently produce conforming parts at production volume, with experience troubleshooting die performance issues on the production floor.
• Working knowledge of GD&T, dimensional inspection, and relevant quality standards (e.g., ISO 9001).
• Hands-on experience with Bruderer high-speed presses (e.g., BSTA 30V2) or comparable Swiss/high-speed precision stamping equipment strongly preferred — including setup, tuning, and troubleshooting at speeds of 1,000+ SPM.
• Demonstrated experience in precision microstamping and building tight-tolerance progressive dies for miniature components.
• Familiarity working with high-performance copper alloys, particularly Copper Beryllium (C17200), and other spring and electrical-contact materials.
