Job summary

Dairy Farmers of America is seeking an experienced driver to operate straight trucks, tractor-trailers, or doubles, delivering dairy products and related assets to customers, warehouses and distributors on schedule while upholding safety and customer service standards. You will communicate with supervisors, maintain logs and vehicle maintenance, and complete all paperwork daily.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2+ years experience driving tractor trailer, straight truck, or doubles.
  • Must meet DFA Motor Vehicle Records and DOT requirements.
  • Valid Class A CDL; doubles endorsement may be required.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to comply with DOT rules and DFA policies.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a commercial motor vehicle following DOT and DFA rules.
  • Deliver on route schedule and meet customer delivery expectations.
  • Report delays due to road conditions or breakdowns.
  • Load/unload as required and assist with stocking.
  • Maintain vehicle and equipment and keep logs per policy.
  • Complete daily paperwork and maintain log/trip records.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and team.
  • Attend driver trainings and workshops.
  • Represent DFA professionally during interactions.
  • Follow safety practices and routes as directed.

Job description

GENERAL PURPOSE

Operate a straight truck, tractor-trailer, or double trailer. Deliver products or assets in a safe and timely manner to customers, warehouses, distributors, etc., according to the delivery route schedule as determined by the supervisor. Demonstrate high standards of customer service. Communicate frequently with peers, supervisors, and others.



JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Operate a commercial motor vehicle in compliance with DOT and DFA rules, regulations and policies adhering to all safety practices

  • Deliver products or assets according to route schedule and customer delivery expectations (e.g., put deliveries inside coolers and walk-ins) in a safe and timely manner. Follow designated routes and schedules unless otherwise directed by supervisory personnel

  • Report delivery delays to management due to road conditions, accidents or breakdowns

  • Based on route design, load and unload product as required at designated stops (2-wheel cart and/or pallet jacket); may include stocking and ordering of product (varies from route to route)

  • Communicate effectively and maintain good relations with customers and report any problems to the driver supervisor or manager

  • Ensure and/or perform proper maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment used (tires, fuel, oil check, etc.) and maintain a clean vehicle

  • Complete all daily paperwork fully and correctly each day. Maintain all log and trip records according to company policy and DOT guidelines

  • Perform load inventory and document condition of freight before departure

  • Attend all driver workshops and training sessions

  • Use company supported applications or systems properly

  • Represent DFA positively and professionally at all times during interactions with customers or other individuals

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 2 or more years of experience driving a tractor trailer, straight truck, or doubles trailer, within the last 5 years preferred

  • Must meet minimum age requirements

  • Must meet DFA requirements for Motor Vehicle Records

  • Must meet all DOT requirements

  • Certification and/or License – valid Class A CDL; some drivers may be required to have a doubles endorsement; license or operator’s permit for at least the three years immediately prior to application



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES


  • Knowledge of DOT procedures, rules, and requirements

  • Skill in proficient computer usage

  • Skill with math for calculating load size and recording accurate volume/weight measurements

  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

  • Able to contribute to the positive performance behaviors through personal example

  • Able to be proactive in seeking solutions and taking appropriate steps to solve problems

  • Able to work in collaboration effectively and foster good teamwork

  • Able to be punctual, follow directions, and meet deadlines
