Job summary

Dairy Farmers of America is seeking a professional driver to operate straight trucks, tractors, or doubles, delivering dairy products to customers and warehouses across a scheduled route in Michigan.

Responsibilities include safe operation, on-time deliveries, route adherence, and accurate paperwork. Must hold a valid Class A CDL (doubles endorsement may be required) and meet DFA/DOT requirements. Strong customer service and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class A CDL; some drivers may require doubles endorsement.
  • License/permit for at least three years prior to application.
  • Must meet minimum age requirements.
  • Must meet DFA Motor Vehicle Records requirements.
  • Must meet all DOT requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a commercial motor vehicle per DOT and DFA rules and safety practices.
  • Deliver products on route, follow schedules, and handle in-routes deliveries.
  • Report delays due to road conditions or breakdowns.
  • Load/unload product as required and assist with stocking at stops.
  • Maintain good customer relations and clear communication with supervisors.
  • Perform routine vehicle maintenance and keep vehicle clean.
  • Complete daily paperwork and logs per policy and DOT guidelines.
  • Attend driver workshops and training sessions.
  • Utilize company systems for operations and reporting.
  • Represent DFA professionally with customers and staff.

Job description

General Purpose

Operate a straight truck, tractor‑trailer, or double trailer. Deliver products or assets in a safe and timely manner to customers, warehouses, distributors, etc., according to the delivery route schedule as determined by the supervisor. Demonstrate high standards of customer service. Communicate frequently with peers, supervisors, and others.

Job Duties And Responsibilities
  • Operate a commercial motor vehicle in compliance with DOT and DFA rules, regulations and policies adhering to all safety practices.
  • Deliver products or assets according to route schedule and customer delivery expectations (e.g., put deliveries inside coolers and walk‑ins) in a safe and timely manner. Follow designated routes and schedules unless otherwise directed by supervisory personnel.
  • Report delivery delays to management due to road conditions, accidents or breakdowns.
  • Based on route design, load and unload product as required at designated stops (2‑wheel cart and/or pallet jacket); may include stocking and ordering of product (varies from route to route).
  • Communicate effectively and maintain good relations with customers and report any problems to the driver supervisor or manager.
  • Ensure and/or perform proper maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment used (tires, fuel, oil check, etc.) and maintain a clean vehicle.
  • Complete all daily paperwork fully and correctly each day. Maintain all log and trip records according to company policy and DOT guidelines.
  • Perform load inventory and document condition of freight before departure.
  • Attend all driver workshops and training sessions.
  • Use company supported applications or systems properly.
  • Represent DFA positively and professionally at all times during interactions with customers or other individuals.

Education And Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 or more years of experience driving a tractor‑trailer, straight truck, or doubles trailer, within the last 5 years preferred.
  • Must meet minimum age requirements.
  • Must meet DFA requirements for Motor Vehicle Records.
  • Must meet all DOT requirements.
  • Certification and/or License - valid Class A CDL; some drivers may be required to have a doubles endorsement; license or operator’s permit for at least the three years immediately prior to application.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Knowledge of DOT procedures, rules, and requirements.
  • Skill in proficient computer usage.
  • Skill with math for calculating load size and recording accurate volume/weight measurements.
  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
