Job summary

A leading food distribution company is seeking a dedicated driver to operate a tractor-trailer. The role includes delivering products efficiently and safely to customers, maintaining vehicle standards, and ensuring compliance with DOT regulations. Candidates should possess a valid Class A CDL, with at least two years of relevant driving experience. Qualifications

  • Must have 2+ years of driving experience within the last 5 years.
  • Must be at least the minimum age as per company requirements.
  • Must meet DOT requirements.
  • Must meet all DOT requirements.
  • Certification and/or License – valid Class A CDL; doubles endorsement preferred; license for at least 3 years prior to application.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a commercial motor vehicle in compliance with regulations.
  • Deliver products according to schedule and customer expectations.
  • Report delivery delays and perform vehicle maintenance.
  • Load and unload product as required at designated stops; may include stocking and ordering of product.
  • Communicate effectively and maintain good relations with customers; report problems to supervisor or manager.
  • Perform proper vehicle maintenance and keep it clean (tires, fuel, oil, etc.).
  • Complete all daily paperwork accurately; maintain logs and trip records per policy and DOT guidelines.
  • Perform load inventory and document freight condition before departure.
  • Attend driver workshops and training sessions; use company-provided systems properly.
  • Represent DFA professionally during interactions with customers and others.

Job description

General Purpose

Operate a tractor-trailer. Deliver products or assets in a safe and timely manner to customers, warehouses, distributors, etc., according to the delivery route schedule as determined by the supervisor. Demonstrate high standards of customer service. Communicate frequently with peers, supervisors, and others.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate a commercial motor vehicle in compliance with DOT and DFA rules, regulations and policies adhering to all safety practices
  • Deliver products or assets according to route schedule and customer delivery expectations (e.g., put deliveries inside coolers and walk-ins) in a safe and timely manner. Follow designated routes and schedules unless otherwise directed by supervisory personnel
  • Report delivery delays to management due to road conditions, accidents or breakdowns
  • Based on route design, load and unload product as required at designated stops (2-wheel cart and/or pallet jacket); may include stocking and ordering of product (varies from route to route)
  • Communicate effectively and maintain good relations with customers and report any problems to the driver supervisor or manager
  • Ensure and/or perform proper maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment used (tires, fuel, oil check, etc.) and maintain a clean vehicle
  • Complete all daily paperwork fully and correctly each day. Maintain all log and trip records according to company policy and DOT guidelines
  • Perform load inventory and document condition of freight before departure
  • Attend all driver workshops and training sessions
  • Use company supported applications or systems properly
  • Represent DFA positively and professionally at all times during interactions with customers or other individuals

Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2 or more years of experience driving a tractor trailer, straight truck, or doubles trailer, within the last 5 years preferred
  • Must meet minimum age requirements
  • Must meet DFA requirements for Motor Vehicle Records
  • Must meet all DOT requirements
  • Certification and/or License – valid Class A CDL; some drivers may be required to have a doubles endorsement; license or operator’s permit for at least the three years immediately prior to application
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of DOT procedures, rules, and requirements
  • Skill in proficient computer usage
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Skills with math for calculating load size and recording accurate volume/weight measurements
  • Able to contribute to the positive performance behaviors through personal example
