Job summary

Pratt Industries is seeking a driver to operate heavy-duty trucks for collection of waste and recyclables. You will transport materials to disposal or recycling facilities, while safely navigating residential areas and high-traffic routes.

Responsibilities include performing vehicle inspections, reporting issues, and collaborating with the Route Manager to optimize routes. A valid CDL and safe driving record are required.

Qualifications

  • CDL required with safe driving record.
  • Ability to lift 75 lbs.
  • Forklift certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of recycling classifications and commingled collection processes.
  • Ability to operate multiple vehicle types in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate vehicle in accordance with Pratt Recycling safety, OSHA, and DOT rules.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip inspections and document checks (DVIR).
  • Report unsafe situations or service issues to Route Manager/Dispatch.
  • Attend scheduled training and meetings as required.
  • Work with Route Manager to improve route efficiencies and best practices.
  • Notify Route Manager of incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
  • Communicate customer requests to Dispatch or Route Manager.
  • Dump all receptacles completely and leave site clean.

Job description

Position Summary

Drivers operate heavy-duty trucks and are responsible for the collection of commercial and/or residential household waste or recyclable material. Driver will transport the material to a disposal, transfer or recycle facility when trucks reach legal load capacity. Driver safely maneuvers vehicle in residential environments. Navigates high traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots.

Essential Functions/Position Responsibilities
  • Operates vehicle in accordance with Pratt Recycling Safety and OSHA (Occupational and Safety Health Act) and DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements as well as all local, state and federal laws.
  • Performs pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle and documents checks utilizing the standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report). .
  • Immediately reports all unsafe situations or service related issues to Route Manager or Dispatch.
  • Attends and participates in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by Pratt Recycling or directed by the Route Manager.
  • Works closely with Route Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
  • Notifies Route Manager of any incidents, accidents, injures, or property damage.
  • Notifies Route Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions including closed or impassable streets or alleyways, receptacles too heavy to service or potential safety hazards.
  • Communicates customer requests to Dispatch or Route Manager.
  • Completely dumps all receptacles and leaves the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
  • Follows route assignments as directed and completes end of day documentation and check out process.
  • Must be able to operate all trucks in fleet.
  • Monitor gauges, dials and other indicators
  • Fulfill assigned route pick-ups
  • Manage route Loader
  • Operate hydraulic controls
  • Empty truck at established disposal sites
  • Clean truck and compactor as needed
  • Follows all safety policies and procedures
  • Current forklift operator's certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate multiple types of vehicles and equipment safely in all weather conditions and working environments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of recycling commodity classifications and grades of paper and plastics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of commingled collection processes and allowable materials.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of proper loading and transportation and shipping procedures for commodities.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Commercial Driver's license and safe driving record.
  • Ability to lift 75 lbs.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule when necessary.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
