Job summary

CarMax in Greensboro, NC is seeking a Fleet Driver I to move vehicles between CarMax locations and approved vendors. You will perform pre-trip inspections, secure loads, and help maintain DOT logs, with a focus on safety, reliability, and timely deliveries.

The role requires a valid Class A CDL, 2+ years of CMV or Class A CDL driving, and a clean driving record. You will work outdoors in all weather and represent CarMax with professionalism.

Qualifications

• 21 years of age or older with a valid state-issued driver's licence.
• Clean driving record with no serious violations in the past three years; candidates must meet CarMax’s Driver Safety Evaluation criteria.
• Physical ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds; secure, block, and restrain vehicles during transport; and perform repetitive physical tasks including pulling, torquing, and tensioning chains, binders, and straps to meet FMCSA and CarMax load securement standards.
• Must be able to climb, bend, and kneel to access and secure vehicles on multi-level transport decks.
• Ability to meet DOT & FMCSA qualification requirements.
• Comfortable working in outdoor environments, including exposure to noise and inclement weather.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills with adherence to CarMax policies and safety standards.
• Works efficiently and uses time wisely
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued by the state.
• 2+ years of Class A CDL driving experience (Military heavy/medium tactical vehicle experience considered) OR 2+ years of Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) driving experience at CarMax (non-Class A CMV experience is acceptable).

Responsibilities

• Safety first — conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with DOT and CarMax standards using company hauler.
• Stay compliant — maintain accurate and compliant DOT logs and documentation.
• Transport with Care — load, secure, transport, and unload CarMax vehicles safely and efficiently, including hands-on freight handling, ladder climbing, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Be accountable — move vehicles between CarMax locations and approved vendors using a company‑provided truck, keeping your equipment clean, well-maintained, and operationally ready.
• Deliver with purpose — deliver vehicles accurately and on time to support inventory flow and keep customers and stores on schedule.
• Represent CarMax professionally – interact with vendors, store associates, and the public in a way that reflects our values every time.
