Job description

The driver will be trained to drive tractor-trailers and dump trucks and will work as a mechanic when not driving.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Fully understand how to operate and safely drive your assigned delivery vehicle.
2. Ensure the trailer hitch is properly and securely attached to the tractor unit.
3. Transport goods from the place of origin to the assigned destination.
4. Pick-up loads and organize goods in an ordered, logical manner.
5. Ensure contents are properly secured inside the truck to prevent breakage or damage.
6. Safely and efficiently handle and unload goods at selected destinations.
7. Obtain signatures or warehouse scans to confirm and complete deliveries with clients.
8. Assist in mapping delivery routes.
9. Stay on the predetermined route and ensure timely deliveries.
10. Communicate with dispatch as needed.
11. Confirm the contents of each shipment load matches the manifest document.
12. Perform inspections of your vehicle prior to and following each trip.
13. Check weather conditions and road reports before departure.
14. Always ensure your vehicle is kept clean.
15. Maintain and service the vehicle as needed (refuel, change oil, tire pressure, repairs, etc).
16. Notify managers of any major maintenance or delivery issues encountered.
17. Follow the delivery schedule and rest at appropriate times.
18. Maintain detailed driving and delivery logs.
19. Track and report working hours.
20. Adhere to company rules and regulations.
21. Obey all applicable traffic laws and drive according to the weather/road conditions.
22. Comply with DOT regulations.
23. Make safety a priority at all times.
24. Independently perform preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment.
25. Repair and replace worn equipment parts.
26. Inspect machines and heavy equipment and diagnose defects.
27. Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications.
28. Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
