The driver will be trained to operate tractor-trailers and dump trucks and will serve as a mechanic when not driving.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Fully understand how to operate and safely drive your assigned delivery vehicle.
- Ensure the trailer hitch is properly and securely attached to the tractor unit.
- Transport goods from the origin to the destination.
- Pick up loads and organize goods logically.
- Secure contents inside the truck to prevent damage.
- Safely unload goods at destinations.
- Obtain signatures or scans to confirm deliveries.
- Assist in mapping delivery routes.
- Follow the predetermined route and ensure timely deliveries.
- Communicate with dispatch as needed.
- Verify shipment contents match the manifest.
- Perform vehicle inspections before and after trips.
- Check weather and road conditions before departure.
- Keep the vehicle clean.
- Maintain and service the vehicle (refuel, oil change, tire pressure, repairs).
- Report major maintenance or delivery issues to management.
- Follow the delivery schedule and rest appropriately.
- Keep detailed logs of driving and deliveries.
- Track and report working hours.
- Follow company rules and regulations.
- Obey traffic laws and adapt to weather and road conditions.
- Comply with DOT regulations.
- Prioritize safety at all times.
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs independently.
- Replace worn equipment parts.
- Inspect machinery and heavy equipment, diagnose defects.
- Test mechanical products after repair to ensure proper performance.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles.
