Job description

Claims Service Representative I - Total Salvage

You will support the Auto Claims Operation by providing service pursuant to the policy by handling claims of material damage, property, and/or liability lines of insurance written by the Interinsurance Exchange in compliance with all regulatory and statutory requirements. The primary functions include investigation, evaluation, and negotiation of lower complexity claims in compliance with established company technical and customer service best practices.

Responsibilities include the following:

  1. Communicate and interact with a variety of individuals including insureds and claimants.
  2. Explain benefits, coverages, fault, and claims process either verbally or in writing in compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements.
  3. Conduct phone and/or field investigations to determine liability and damages. Identify and obtain statements from insureds, claimants, and witnesses.
  4. Evaluate and determine claim values upon receipt and assessment of property, medical, and liability data.
  5. Negotiate within settlement authority with insureds and claimants to resolve first and third-party claims.
  6. Handle administrative functions, update database production reports, and document and update claim files via company systems, such as CACS, HUON, HOC, etc.
  7. Verify and interpret/resolve coverage by gathering necessary information to ensure policy applicability.
  8. Coordinate with internal and external departments as required.
  9. Identify cross-sell opportunities based on members’ product needs and service requests.
  10. Enhance member relationships by diversifying use of products and services. Provide sales leads to insurance, travel, and other departments as appropriate.

Education/Experience:

  • Four-year college degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Prior claims experience required.
  • Typically has 6 months to 3 years claims handling experience.
  • Moderate computer literacy required.
  • General understanding of negligence desired.
  • Advanced organization and planning skills required.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills required.
