Job summary

Markel in Henderson, NV is seeking a Senior Claims Manager to lead a team of claims examiners with varying experience. You will oversee the resolution of low to high complexity claims and provide direction, coaching, and training to staff.

You will direct assignments, review reserves and settlements, and collaborate with underwriters, risk, actuarial, and executives to align outcomes with company priorities. Travel to other offices and mediations may be required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years in the insurance industry, with a deep and broad understanding of workers compensation.
  • Experience managing people.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and monitor assignments of new loss activity.
  • Review and approve correspondence and reports.
  • Review and approve reserves and settlements in excess of examiner’s authority.
  • Make recommendations concerning reserve changes to director or senior management.
  • Participate in review and discussion of large loss activity with stakeholders (UW, PL, Actuarial, Exec Management).
  • Ensure adherence to Fair Claims Practices regulations and internal Claims Quality Performance Objectives.
  • Assess and develop training needs; provide feedback to staff.
  • Prepare and distribute reports by collecting and summarizing information.
  • Assist in budgeting and resource assessment.
  • Foster relationships with internal stakeholders (UW, PL, Actuarial) and customers/partners.

This position will oversee the resolution of claims with low to high complexity and provide direction, coaching, and training. This position will report to the Dir or Senior Dir of claims and be responsible for conveying the organization’s objectives and priorities to staff and measure progress towards stated goals.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assess and evaluate individual examiner and team performance, provide feedback and develop training needs

  • Prepare and distribute reports by collecting and summarizing information

  • Assist in preparation of budgets, evaluation of expenses and assess resource needs

  • Foster and encourage strong relationships with internal stakeholders (UW, PL, Actuarial)

  • Promote and enhance strong relationships with customers and channel partners

  • Participate in special projects as requested

  • Travel to other claim offices, mediations, trials, and conferences as required.

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
Certification:
  • Successful achievement of insurance industry designations a plus

  • Management training a plus

Work Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years in the insurance industry, with a deep and broad understanding of workers compensation.

  • Experiencemanaging people.

Skill Sets:
  • Strategic thinker with good organizational skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Strong organization and time management skills

  • Ability to deliver outstanding customer service

Pay information:

The salary range for this position is $91,400 - $190,500. The posted salary range reflects the lowest and highest base salary applicable to this role across our U.S. locations. Individual offers are determined based on geographic location, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and other job-related factors. As a result, the salary offered for a specific location will fall within a narrower range than the overall range displayed in this posting. This position may also be eligible to participate in the Company’s annual incentive plan.
