Job summary

Western National Insurance Group is seeking a Claims Intern for the Summer 2027 Internship Program. You will assist the Claims team with data collection, entry, and claims resolutions across Auto, Property, and Workers' Compensation departments.

As a participant, you will learn to research coverage, document claims, and support investigations while gaining exposure to vendor systems, reserving, and collaboration with underwriters and adjusters.

Qualifications

• Two years of college completed preferred.
• Willingness to handle data collection, entry, customer relations, claims resolution and everything in between.
• Proven time management skills with the ability to effectively prioritize, multi‑task, and establish/meet deadlines.
• Superior customer service.
• Professional communication skills.
• An understanding of technology solutions.
• Ability to work onsite at our corporate office in Edina, MN.

Responsibilities

• Learn how to research and confirm coverage for all types of property and casualty claims.
• Learn the importance of claim documentation, recordkeeping, and data reporting.
• Learn how to properly investigate a claim using communication and listening skills, witness information, online research tools, medical records, and/or vendor services.
• Assist with updating data fields in designated systems and reporting vendor platforms.
• Learn how to use your investigation to assess compensability.
• Learn to read, review, and pay estimates, medical bills, and vendor bills.
• Learn how to set and modify reserves on a claim.
• Work with subject matter experts to learn claims and compliance processes.
• Learn the importance of working closely with underwriters, loss control, insureds, and agents to offer superior customer service.
• Attend off site claims-related tasks and events with adjusting team.
• Shadow other positions within the company to learn more about careers within the insurance industry.
• Assist with various projects as assigned.
