Job summary

ERIE is seeking a claims specialist to process first-party and third-party auto claims and assist with property claims. You will verify coverage, set reserves, and handle payments while communicating with policyholders and claimants.

This role emphasizes accuracy, data entry, and adherence to company procedures. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED with 1 year of related experience; a Bachelor's/Associate degree is preferred, along with pursuit of insurance education and licensing

Qualifications

  • Equivalent educational experience acceptable.
  • Bachelor's or Associate degree preferred.
  • Pursuit of general insurance education preferred.
  • Obtain appropriate licenses as required by state within 45 days (external) / 90 days (internal).

Job description

  • Settle claims within limits of authority under minimal supervision
  • Process first-party automobile, third-party clear-liability automobile, and low-severity property claims
  • Contact policyholders and claimants
  • Verify coverage and set reserves
  • Set up and/or issue payments using ERIE's approved payment methods
  • Establish contact with all parties involved in claims according to ERIE's expectations
  • Handle inquiries from policyholders, agents, insurance carriers, claimants, and others
  • Enter loss information into the claims system
  • Prepare correspondence, forms, and related materials
  • Review pending claims and activities regularly
  • Provide support for property claims during periods of heavy volume
  • Follow other job-related instructions and perform additional duties requested by the supervisor
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED and one year of related claims handling, customer service, or clerical experience required
  • Equivalent educational experience required
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree preferred
  • Pursuit of general insurance education preferred
  • Obtain appropriate licenses as required by state within 45 days of employment for external applicants and 90 days for internal applicants
  • Frequent manual keying/data entry/inputting information/computer use (50-80%)
  • Ability to move over 50 lbs using lifting aide equipment, rarely
  • Driving, climbing/accessing heights, lifting/moving, and pushing/pulling may be required rarely
