Job summary

Hiscox USA is seeking a Claims Examiner for the 1st Party Property team. You will adjudicate assigned claims, review coverage, and support the claims team with investigations and reserve decisions.

The role emphasizes strong analytical and communication skills, with preferred active adjuster licensure and a bachelor’s degree. This is a hybrid position offering competitive compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of 1st Party Commercial claims handling experience.
• Advanced knowledge of claims analysis and adjusting practices.
• In depth knowledge of standards for claims documentation.
• Proven ability to negotiate settlement of moderate to complex claims.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Active insurance adjuster’s license preferred.
• BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university preferred.

Responsibilities

• Adjudicates assigned claims within given authority and provides operational support.
• Adjusts and resolves moderate 1st Party commercial claims.
• Reviews and assesses coverage for losses.
• Completes in-depth investigations to confirm coverage relevance.
• Documents claim files with all relevant materials per policies and regulations.
• Assesses reserves for indemnity and expenses.
• Drafts coverage letters with minimal supervision.
• Drives Best Practices to manage expenses and exposure.
• Maintains high level of customer service.
• Identifies fraudulent claims and coordinates with special investigations unit.
• Participates in claims projects as needed.

Job Type: Permanent Build a brilliant future with Hiscox Position: Claims Examiner- 1st Party Property Team: 1st Party Property The Role: The Claims Examiner adjudicates assigned claims within given authority and provides operational support to the claims team. This person also: Adjusts and resolves moderate claims that includes all phases 1st Party commercial claims for our Property Team Accurately reviews and assesses coverage for all losses Completes full in depth investigations to confirm how coverage is relevant and applies it to the loss Manages smaller business income losses and the period of restoration Accurately documents claim files with all relevant claim documentation, correspondence and notes in compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory authorities Accurately assesses reserves for indemnity and expense payments With minimal supervision, drafts coverage letters, including reservation of rights and denial letters Drives 1st Party Best Practices to manage expense and exposure on losses Has a high level of customer service Identifies suspected fraudulent claims and tracks with special investigations unit Participates in Claims projects as needed

Salary range: $70-$85k The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment
