Job summary

Hiscox USA in Scottsdale, AZ seeks a Claims Examiner for 1st Party Property to adjudicate claims within authority and support the claims team. You will adjust and resolve moderate claims, review coverage, conduct investigations, document files, and prepare letters while maintaining high service standards.

This hybrid role requires strong analytical skills, negotiation ability, and an active adjuster license preferred; a BA/BS is preferred.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of 1st Party Commercial claims handling experience
• Advanced knowledge of claims analysis and adjusting practices
• In depth knowledge of standards for claims documentation
• Proven ability to actively and effectively negotiate settlement of moderate to complex claims
• Strong analytical skills and communication abilities
• Active insurance adjuster’s license preferred
• BA/BS degree from an accredited college preferred

Responsibilities

• Adjudicates assigned 1st Party commercial claims within authority
• Adjusts and resolves moderate claims for the Property Team
• Reviews and assesses coverage for losses
• Completes full investigations to apply coverage to the loss
• Documents claim files and correspondence per policy
• Assesses reserves for indemnity and expense payments
• Drafts coverage letters including reservations of rights and denials
• Drives best practices to manage expenses and exposure
• Maintains high levels of customer service
• Identifies suspected fraudulent claims and coordinates with SIU
• Participates in claims projects as needed

Position: Claims Examiner- 1st Party Property

Team: 1st Party Property

The Role

The Claims Examiner adjudicates assigned claims within given authority and provides operational support to the claims team. This person also:

• Adjusts and resolves moderate claims that includes all phases 1st Party commercial claims for our Property Team
• Accurately reviews and assesses coverage for all losses
• Completes full in depth investigations to confirm how coverage is relevant and applies it to the loss
• Manages smaller business income losses and the period of restoration
• Accurately documents claim files with all relevant claim documentation, correspondence and notes in compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory authorities
• Accurately assesses reserves for indemnity and expense payments
• With minimal supervision, drafts coverage letters, including reservation of rights and denial letters
• Drives 1st Party Best Practices to manage expense and exposure on losses
• Has a high level of customer service
• Identifies suspected fraudulent claims and tracks with special investigations unit
• Participates in Claims projects as needed

Salary range

$70-$85k
