Responsibilities

• Handle and resolve complex, highly specialized claims through investigation, evaluation, and disposition.
• Operate independently within broad company guidelines and high authority levels in claim settlements.
• Review and process highly complex large loss or specialized claims generally settling over $200,000, often involving litigation.
• Coordinate internal and external resources, including independent adjusters, appraisers, and attorneys.
• Identify questionable claims and consult with SIU.
• Determine settlement value and negotiate settlements within authority.
• Document relevant activity on assigned files.
• Communicate with underwriting partners regarding claims trends and legal climate.

Job description

• Handle and resolve complex, highly specialized claims through investigation, evaluation, and disposition
• Operate independently within broad company guidelines and high authority levels in claim settlements
• Make recommendations to management on claim coverage and settlement
• Review and process highly complex large loss or specialized claims generally settling over $200,000, often involving litigation
• Support business partners through communication and education about specific claims
• Investigate claims and determine coverage, liability, and damages
• Draft coverage correspondence and respond to coverage questions
• Determine exposure, establish adequate reserves, and make timely adjustments
• Select, assign, and direct internal and external resources, including independent adjusters, appraisers, and attorneys
• Identify questionable claims and consult with SIU
• Determine settlement value and negotiate settlements within authority
• Provide recommendations for claims exceeding authority level
• Document relevant activity on assigned files
• Communicate with underwriting business partners regarding claims trends and legal climate
• Provide expertise regarding needed coverage changes or enhancements
• Maintain knowledge of regulatory and legal environments
• Coach or train less experienced claim representatives
• Develop and lead technical training and guide other departments

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
• JD may be required depending on the needs and requirements of a business unit
• 5+ years of progressively more complex, specialized claims handling experience
• Desired experience working on complex Cyber - E&O Claims
• Strong professional knowledge of regulatory and legal environments
• Must stay abreast of state license requirements
• Participate in continuing education as required
• Ability to handle complex, highly specialized claims
• Ability to investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and settle claims
• Ability to operate independently within broad company guidelines and high authority levels
• Ability to communicate with insureds, business partners, underwriting partners, attorneys, adjusters, appraisers, and other stakeholders
