Job summary

Jobtailor in Paducah, KY seeks a civil/structural engineer to support DOE facility modification projects and evaluate existing structures. You will develop specifications, calculations, and drawings, and coordinate with project teams and site personnel.

DOE experience and a Kentucky PE license are required, with field visits to the Paducah plant as needed. Experience applying seismic loads, coding standards, and QA processes is essential.

Qualifications

  • Active Kentucky PE license required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering.
  • Experience producing civil/structural design products: specs, calculations, evaluations, statements of work, and drawings.
  • DOE experience required.
  • Experience in industrial/chemical/nuclear/regulatory facility environments.
  • Ability to support task-based engineering assignments from weeks to months.
  • Provide Kentucky PE license information for proposals; subcontractor firm must hold Kentucky permit.
  • Ability to conduct field visits and meetings at Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant (Kevil, KY).
  • Meet DOE site access, badging, safety, QA, radiological control requirements.
  • Preferred: STAAD software experience.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of ASME Hoisting and Rigging, AWS, IBC, AISC, ACI-318, ASCE 7-10.
  • Preferred: Experience applying seismic loads to DOE facilities.
  • Preferred: Experience coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
  • US citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide civil and structural engineering support for DOE facility modification projects and evaluations of existing structures and systems.
  • Develop and review civil/structural specifications, calculations, engineering evaluations, structural assessments, design drawings, and statements of work.
  • Evaluate structural conditions, design requirements, constructability, and discipline interfaces for existing facility modifications.
  • Support application of seismic loads and applicable civil/structural codes and standards.
  • Apply design codes, standards, site procedures, engineering design control requirements, and assigned quality levels.
  • Coordinate with project managers, design engineering management, discipline leads, client representatives, and technical staff on task execution, reviews, schedules, and field visits.
  • Support work planning, technical input, milestone deliverables, engineering documentation, and design activities on an intermittent or task-specific basis.
  • Comply with site access, safety, QA, security, radiological control, and worker safety and health requirements.

Job description

  • Provide civil and structural engineering support for DOE facility modification projects and evaluations of existing structures and systems.

  • Evaluate structural conditions, design requirements, constructability considerations, and discipline interfaces for existing facility modifications.
  • Support application of seismic loads and applicable civil/structural codes and standards.
  • Apply design codes, standards, site procedures, engineering design control requirements, and assigned quality levels.
  • Coordinate with project managers, design engineering management, discipline leads, client representatives, and technical staff on task execution, reviews, schedules, and field visits.
  • Support work planning, technical input, milestone deliverables, engineering documentation, and design activities on an intermittent or task-specific basis.
  • Comply with site access, safety, quality assurance, security, radiological control, and worker safety and health requirements.
Requirements
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Experience developing civil/structural engineering design products, including specifications, calculations, evaluations, assessments, statements of work, and design drawings.
  • Department of Energy (DOE) experience is required.
  • Experience supporting engineering work in industrial, chemical processing, nuclear processing, environmental, or other complex regulated facility environments.
  • Ability to support task-based engineering assignments ranging from a few weeks to several months, depending on design scope and project needs.
  • Ability to provide individual Kentucky PE license information for proposal submittal purposes; the associated subcontractor firm must hold a current permit in Kentucky to perform engineering services.
  • Ability to support field visits and/or project meetings at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Kevil, Kentucky, as needed.
  • Ability to meet DOE site access, badging, security, training, safety, quality assurance, and radiological control requirements, as applicable.
  • Preferred: Experience with STAAD structural software.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of ASME hoisting and rigging codes, AWS, IBC, AISC, ACI-318, and ASCE 7-10.
  • Preferred: Experience applying seismic loads to industrial, nuclear, or DOE facility structures.
  • Preferred: Experience in hoisting and rigging, powered industrial truck attachments, or industrial welding.
  • Preferred: Experience coordinating civil/structural design scope with multiple technical and field execution stakeholders.
  • US citizenship is required due to government contract and/or clearance requirements.
