Job summary

Valmont Industries seeks a motivated Civil/Structural Engineering Intern to join our Global Utility Division in Tuscaloosa, onsite, for Spring/Summer 2027. You will work with our Concrete Design Engineering team on meaningful projects and gain hands-on experience from industry leaders.

The internship offers exposure to design criteria, drafting procedures, manufacturability considerations, and collaboration with manufacturing, procurement, service, QA and engineering services.

Qualifications

• Rising junior or senior pursuing Civil/Structural/Mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
• CAD skills including design applications and converting drawings to 3D models.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Actively participate in design and analysis; recommend changes in criteria and procedures.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Procurement, Service, QA and Engineering Services to understand multiple perspectives.
• Apply design knowledge to manufacturability considerations of final designs.

Valmont is seeking a motivated and talented Civil/Structural Engineering Intern to join our Global Utility Division. In this role, you will work alongside our Concrete Design Engineering team, contributing to meaningful projects while gaining hands-on experience from industry-leading engineers. This internship offers a unique opportunity to develop technical skills, learn engineering best practices, and collaborate with subject matter experts across multiple business functions. You will gain valuable exposure to both the engineering and operational sides of the business, helping build a strong foundation for your future career. Valmont’s internship program is designed to provide a hands-on learning experience through project work, job shadowing, leadership development, and interaction with senior leaders across the company.

What You’ll Do

• Actively participate and recommend changes in design criteria, analysis methods, drafting procedures and developing new methods and procedures
• Work with a design team that consists of one or more individuals from Manufacturing, Procurement, Service, Quality Assurance and Engineering Services getting exposure to different angles of team development including the process used for troubleshooting potential design errors
• Gain and subsequently apply design knowledge when considering the manufacturability of the final design

What We’re Looking For

• Rising junior or senior currently pursuing a degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university; degree in Civil or Structural engineering preferred
• CAD skills including design applications and converting drawings to 3D models
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint application
• Demonstrated strong communication interpersonal, verbal, written communication skills
• Demonstrated problem solving/critical thinking skills
• Preferred: Exposure to concrete testing and mix design
• Experience in reinforced concrete design
