Job summary

S-E-A is a forensic engineering firm with over 50 years of experience seeking an experienced civil/structural engineer to conduct field investigations, analyze failures across residential, commercial and industrial properties, and determine causes, origins and extent of structural problems. Requirements include a Bachelor's in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master's a plus), Texas P.E.

within 6 months, seven years post‑graduate experience, excellent written and verbal communication, and

  • P.E. registration in Texas or ability to obtain within 6 months.

  • Prepare oral and written reports that document causes of failure and remediation.

Job description

S-E-A is a forensic engineering firm with over 50 years of experience serving as a neutral, third part subject expert, analyzing technical failures. Our engineers reverse engineer and look for the 'why' when things fail. Prior forensic industry experience strongly preferred.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Conduct field investigations and analyze failures involving all types of structures and construction problems including residential, commercial and industrial properties
  • Determine of the cause, origin, and extent of structural failures, water intrusions, construction defects and building system failures including envelope, roof, wall and glazing
  • Assignments may include foundation settlement investigations, structural assessments, site evaluations, sub-surface investigations, vibration analysis, construction site accidents and building egress accident evaluations
  • Analyze failures in buildings and other infrastructure systems by conducting site visits and applying engineering principles and practices in accordance with codes and industry standards
  • Conduct unbiased investigations for various types of clients
  • Responsible for retention and development of client relations
  • Prepare oral and written reports in layman's terms that document causes of failure, extent of loss, and recommended remediation
  • Deliver professional presentations, develop client relationships and promote self to client groups
  • Ability to support conclusions by appropriate expert testimony in legal proceedings
  • Ability to accept and integrate constructive feedback into job performance
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies
Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required, Master's degree a plus
  • A minimum of seven years of post-academic civil/structural experience
  • P.E. (Professional Engineer) registration required through testing in Texas, or ability to obtain Texas P.E. within 6 months
  • Must possess strong writing skills
  • Public speaking experience a plus
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Ability to climb ladders and inspect roofs
  • Ability to carry equipment to and from job sites
  • Ability to work at various heights on structures
  • Ability to maneuver in and around buildings and in confined spaces
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients and colleagues
  • Ability to drive in all conditions
  • Ability to fly on airplanes
  • Ability to visually inspect job sites and relevant artifacts
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required by the work site
  • Ability to learn a new industry and obtain required certifications
