S-E-A seeks a Senior Structural Engineer in Houston, TX to conduct field investigations, analyze failures across residential, commercial and industrial properties, and determine causes and extents of structural issues. The candidate will prepare written reports, deliver professional presentations, and support expert testimony when needed, requiring strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is required.
  • Seven years of post-academic civil/structural experience.
  • P.E. registration in Texas (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
  • Strong writing skills are essential.
  • Public speaking experience is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and analyze failures across residential, commercial, and industrial properties.
  • Identify causes/origins of structural failures and related building issues.
  • Conduct site evaluations, subsurface investigations, and site visits.
  • Prepare clear oral and written reports documenting causes, extent of loss, and remediation.
  • Support conclusions with expert testimony in legal proceedings.
  • Maintain professional knowledge through ongoing education and professional societies.
  • Develop client relationships and present findings to clients.

Job description

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
  • Conduct field investigations and analyze failures involving all types of structures and construction problems including residential, commercial and industrial properties
  • Determine of the cause, origin, and extent of structural failures, water intrusions, construction defects and building system failures including envelope, roof, wall and glazing
  • Assignments may include foundation settlement investigations, structural assessments, site evaluations, sub-surface investigations, vibration analysis, construction site accidents and building egress accident evaluations
  • Analyze failures in buildings and other infrastructure systems by conducting site visits and applying engineering principles and practices in accordance with codes and industry standards
  • Conduct unbiased investigations for various types of clients
  • Responsible for retention and development of client relations
  • Prepare oral and written reports in layman's terms that document causes of failure, extent of loss, and recommended remediation
  • Deliver professional presentations, develop client relationships and promote self to client groups
  • Ability to support conclusions by appropriate expert testimony in legal proceedings
  • Ability to accept and integrate constructive feedback into job performance
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required, Master's degree a plus
  • A minimum of seven years of post-academic civil/structural experience
  • P.E. (Professional Engineer) registration required through testing in Texas, or ability to obtain Texas P.E. within 6 months
  • Must possess strong writing skills
  • Public speaking experience a plus
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
Physical Requirements

  • Ability to climb ladders and inspect roofs
  • Ability to carry equipment to and from job sites
  • Ability to work at various heights on structures
  • Ability to maneuver in and around buildings and in confined spaces

  • Ability to drive in all conditions
  • Ability to fly on airplanes
  • Ability to visually inspect job sites and relevant artifacts
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required by the work site
  • Ability to learn a new industry and obtain required certifications
