Job summary

GFT, located in Newark, NJ, seeks a Civil/Structural Engineer to perform facility inspections and condition assessments across New Jersey, with statewide travel. You will evaluate assets, document deficiencies, and prepare detailed reports to support capital planning and asset management.

The role requires 5+ years of experience, a Civil/Structural Engineering background, AutoCAD and Office proficiency, and NJ travel capability. PE license preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering.
• Minimum five years of experience in building/structural/site inspections or facility condition assessments.
• Experience preparing comprehensive condition assessment reports.
• Experience interpreting construction drawings and technical documents.
• PE license preferred; OSHA 10-Hour cert preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections of buildings, structures, stations, maintenance facilities, and related site infrastructure.
• Evaluate building, structural, and site assets and document deficiencies, repair needs, and asset conditions.
• Prepare detailed inspection reports, condition ratings, photographs, field notes, and recommendations.
• Develop CAD drawings, sketches, and exhibits to support assessment findings.
• Interpret construction drawings and technical documents as part of facility and condition assessments.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and project managers.
• Support capital planning and asset management initiatives through technical reporting and assessment findings.
• Travel up to five days per week throughout New Jersey to perform inspections.
• Work in both office and field environments.
• Walk inspection sites, climb stairs and ladders, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

What You Will Do:

GFT is seeking a Civil / Structural Engineer - Facility Inspection & Condition Assessments to join our team in New Jersey. This position will support facility inspection and condition assessment work throughout New Jersey, with statewide travel required. What you'll be challenged to do:

As a Civil Engineer, you will perform facility inspections and condition assessments for NJ Transit facilities throughout New Jersey. You will evaluate building, structural, and site assets, document deficiencies and repair needs, and prepare detailed technical reports to support capital planning and asset management initiatives.

In the capacity, you will be responsible for the following:

• Conduct field inspections of buildings, structures, stations, maintenance facilities, and related site infrastructure.

Education | Experience:

What you will bring to our firm:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum five (5) years of professional experience in building, structural, and site inspections or facility condition assessments.
• Experience preparing comprehensive condition assessment reports.
• Experience interpreting construction drawings and technical documents.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to travel throughout New Jersey.
• Building assessment experience in New Jersey strongly preferred; New York/New Jersey regional experience desirable.
• Previous NJ Transit project experience preferred.
• OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety certification preferred.
• Familiarity with FTA condition assessment rating methodologies preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Compensation:

The range for this position is salary range is $115,000 - $135,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
