Job summary

Storm4, in partnership with an industry-leading electrical design and construction firm, seeks a Senior Substation Civil/Structural Engineer to lead design across MV–HV substations and switchyards in the United States.

You will own civil/structural deliverables from concept through IFC, coordinate with electrical teams, and manage multiple complex design projects while mentoring junior staff as the group grows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; Master’s preferred.
• 10+ years of heavy substation civil/structural design experience.
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) licence required for Engineering IV level.

Responsibilities

• Lead civil and structural engineering design for MV–HV substation and switchyard projects.
• Deliver detailed work across site grading, drainage, detention basins, foundations, retaining walls, and geotechnical evaluations.
• Develop construction design packages including pavement design, SPCC plans, SW3P design, and security fencing layouts.
• Oversee project scopes, schedules, and budgets across multiple concurrent engineering assignments.
• Partner with electrical, protection & control, and project management teams for integrated, compliant designs.
• Provide technical guidance and quality reviews; contribute to long-term project planning.

We're currently partnered with an industry-leading electrical design and construction partner delivering high-performance power and infrastructure projects across the US on a Senior Substation Civil/Structural Engineer to lead design efforts across a portfolio of MV–HV substations and switchyards.

In this role, you’ll own civil and structural engineering deliverables from concept through IFC packages, covering site development, foundations, grading, drainage, environmental constraints, and structural components. This is an excellent fit for an engineer who enjoys technical depth, cross-functional collaboration, and managing multiple complex design projects.

While starting as an individual contributor, you’ll have future opportunities for team leadership as the group grows.

• Lead civil and structural engineering design for MV–HV substation and switchyard projects.
• Deliver detailed work across site grading, drainage, detention basins, foundations, retaining walls, and geotechnical evaluations.
• Develop construction design packages including pavement design, SPCC plans, SW3P design, and physical security fencing layouts.
• Oversee project scopes, schedules, and budgets across multiple concurrent engineering assignments.
• Partner closely with electrical, protection & control, and project management teams to ensure integrated and compliant designs.
• Provide technical guidance, quality reviews, and contribute to long-term project planning
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• 10+ years of heavy substation civil/structural design experience within consulting or utility environments.
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) licence (required for Engineering IV level).
